Yellowstone

I chose Yellowstone for my project on the USA and I made a Power Point presentation and a talk. I chose Yellowstone because it was interesting.
I found out about a lot of new things. For example the park is called Yellowstone because of the Yellowstone Lake. I also found out about what a caldera is and how many earthquakes there are a  year. A caldera is a lake on a volcano which is created when an empty magma chamber collapses. With time the collapsed chamber will be filled up with water. In Yellowstone there are about 3000 earthquakes a year. The last three super eruptions were 2,1 mio. 1,2 mio. and 640.000 mio. years ago.
It was fun to read and write about Yellowstone.

Our school trip to England

Hello, hello ! We haven't been in contact for long. We had mock exams, the spring holidays and then our one week school trip to the south east of England. We went to Leeds, Brighton, Arundel, Hastings and Rye from May 20th to the 24th. Here is what some of us can say about it :

Two weeks ago, I went on my first school trip to England.
However, last year I had been to England, but to London, with my family.
Every evening, we went to our host family's house. My host family was very nice with me. However, I didn't like the food, because I couldn't eat meat so the sandwiches were not very good. I can say I hoped to eat a steak when I return to my home.
We visited a lot of castles. My favourite place was the Royal  Pavilion in Brighton. It looked like an Indian palace, but the rooms were Chinese. It was just wonderful. The king was lucky !
We also visited Hastings. Hastings is situated in 1066 country, in east Sussex, near Bexhill and Rye. It was one of the first castles built by William the Conqueror after the battle of Hastings in 1066 between him and king Harold.
We started with a visit of "Smugglers' Adventure". It is a place where there are a lot of caves where the smugglers used to hide tea, alcohol... In the caves, there were a lot of animations. We saw a film about the story of the smugglers. We had to lift 1 Kg of tea with and without a pulley... I can say that without the pulley, it is very different (and heavier).
After that, we visited the ruins of the castle. It was huge, and the landscape was just wonderful ! We took a lot of pictures.
Finally, we ate our sandwiches. However, It hailed so we did some shopping in the town of Hastings and we returned to Brighton (to continue the shopping).
I think this castle was very interesting (and impressive for the invaders of that time).
Between the visits, we laughed a lot on the coach. I played video games, I read books, I spoke with my friends....
My only disappointements were the food and the weather, because it rained during three days. However, I liked this trip very much and I hope I will go on another trip next year!
Faysal

I liked the trip because the visits were interesting but the visit of the Royal Pavilion was too long. I preferred the ferry to the train because I’m claustrophobic and the journey by coach to go to Brighton was too long. I was very tired because the visits were long and we walked a lot. The shopping was boring. On top of that, the weather was very bad and now I am sick.
However, the family was very nice and the food was delicious. I missed nothing because I was with Joachim. I learned new words because Joachim and me spoke a lot with our family. For me, the best  visit was the visit of Leeds Castle.
On the whole, I keep a good memory of the trip.
Vincent

My host mother and my host father were friendly and thoughtful. When we arrived, the mother, Kate, was cooking three pizzas. Bob showed us our room : four beds ! It was perfect ! After that we went into the kitchen to eat our delicious pizzas. We were with a nice family  !
The mother was very talkative (even her husband said that), the ideal to improve our English. We spoke about French celebrities, about our school, our parents’ job, our favorite hobbies…
There were two cats : Henry, a grumpy cat, and Loulou, a very sociable and friendly cat. She slept with us every night. And there was a dog, Indie, who was very playful. Lola, Emilia and I played in the big garden with Indie and a Teddy Bear. We had great fun.
For dinner, we ate very well : hot-dog, hamburger, pizza, chips...!
On the first night Kate proposed to Emilia, Lola and myself to play cards. It was amazing, and we even taught them how to play a French game, “Kem’s”.
Jeanne

On the 23rd of May we visited the ruins of Hastings Castle in the morning. To go to the castle we took a funicular. The castle was not very far from my host family's house. The teachers took photos of the students. The castle seemed very big. It rained a lot so we didn’t stay long on the ruins. We ate our sandwiches near the funicular and then we went to Smugglers’ Adventure and St Clement's Cave. It's a cave that was used by smugglers. There were voices that told the history of the cave and it told stories. There were special effects too, to scare the visitors. Smugglers Adventure was great but not really frightening. It  was a good day !
Victoria

Our coach went into a train at Calais
Hastings Castle
We visited the Royal Pavilion in Brighton
Leeds Castle
A peacock at Leeds Castle
Flowers in the garden of Arundel Castle

New Building at Last

Sorry it has been so long but we have been moving into our new buildings.

We moved into the new building just after February half term and it really seems like home now.

What we like :-)

I like that we don't get lost so much because everything is in one building - Emma

I like it because it has got great new sports facilities and all weather pitches - Lewis

The classrooms are lovely and big and very light - Charlotte H

We have a student information desk and we know where to go if we have a problem or question - Megan
This is our new entrance. We walk up a path to the right and teachers use this entrance. You can see our Sports hall and then behind it our new build.

I like the new dining room and everybody using the same place for their lunch instead of having to split up depending on whether you have sandwiches or hot food. - Kayleigh

This is the main building from the staff car park. The single storey glass area is our dining room and we have been told that we will get outside seating and tables for the summer. I like the fact that the corridors are bright and airy and that it feels warm and welcoming. - Jenny

What we don't like :-(
We don't like the queues in the dining room - they seem longer somehow and everyone seems squashed. - Liam

There isn't as much outside space we can use because the final outdoor building work is not quite finished - Mac

I really don't like the change of lesson signal. We used to have a bell and now we have a sort of buzzer that sounds like a heart monitor - Patrick

I don't like all the fire drills we have had - we had to stand out in the cold and they seemed to take ages. It is because the smoke alarms were very sensitive at first. Mrs Robson says it's a good thing but I didn't like standing in the cold. - Ben

It made me very sad watching the old building being demolished. Every day as we come into school we see a bit more knocked down and soon it will be gone forever. It is not nice to watch - Jenny
Here is what was left of our old building by Easter and now it is all gone.

Our work experience

Hi ! Today we let you know about our work experience :

"I did my work experience at a lawyer’s chambers because I want to be a lawyer. I got to see how lawyers work and I had the opportunity to attend court hearings. My work experience was so fantastic ! If I could, I would have stayed longer !"
Oumou

"I spent work experience week at Sylicone, a post-production company. They do all the work that has to be done after the shooting of a movie including editing and sound effects. The company is located at métro station Bastille. It is a very big company. It was founded in 1984 by a man who is still the director today. The company works on movies and television programmes. It was amazing and I was very happy to do my work experience there."
Vincent

“During work experience week I went to an IT company (an Information Technology company). I stayed with the maintenance guy. I helped him when he had a problem to solve but essentially, I looked at what he was doing during the week. Each time he had to go to a client’s office, I went with him. We had to solve the problems our customers encountered with their computer. I think it was a good experience because I learnt a lot of things about computers and IT.”
Joachim

“I had my work experience in a communication and advertising agency. I had to classify folders, publish advertisements about theater plays and other shows. I also had to make a calendar with all the events that the company is responsible for. It was a little bit tiresome but I enjoyed that work experience.”
Georges

"I did my work experience at a chemist’s.
When I arrived on monday, the pharmacist gave me a smock to wear.
During my work experience, I learnt to check the orders of medicines. When the orders were delivered to the shop, I checked if all the medicines had arrived and after that I put them away in the back-shop. I watched what the pharmacist had to do : he made some recommendations to the patients and told them how to use the medication. The chemist’s shop in which I did my work experience was small : there were just two employees, the pharmacist and his assistant. The logo of the chemist’s shop is the green cross. The pharmacist’s job consists in selling medicine to patients."
Victoria

“In France, year 10 students have to go on work experience during a week.
In our collège, it took place from December 10th to December 15th. I did it in a dental centre called "Centre René Laborie". I had to make the appointements and serve the coffee. I saw a lot of interesting tasks : the treatment of dental decay, pulpotomy, the placement of dental implants and bridges...
I liked this work experience, because I got to see the job of a dentist. I wanted to become a dentist. Now, I am sure I want to enter that profession !”
Faysal

“During the four days of my work experience, I went to a nursery school. I really enjoyed that, it was fabulous ! I learnt so much, and I want to be a teacher later.
To be a teacher, you have to be very very patient, creative and you must love children!
During my work experience, I was very close to the chidren. I learnt with them, I played with them, I had so much fun with them. One day, I took one hundred photos of grimaces with Nine, a cute girl. I really loved it.”
Jeanne

“For five days, I did my work experience at a day nursery because I love children and I want to look after children later. The building was the one where I was when I was a child. I started every day at 8:30 am and I finished at 4:00 pm. Work experience for me was very interesting. I would really like to have others.”
Anna

“I went on work experience in a small sewing business. The dressmaker had only two employees. During the week I made a table runner. It was difficult because I could not stop pricking myself with needles. But it has been a good work experience anyway.”
Emilia

“I did my work experience in a communication agency near the métro station Marcadet-Poissonniers. The journey wasn't very long as I live 5 minutes from the agency. I didn't do anything exceptional during my work experience, I only watched the staff do their job. They had to work on the computer or scan documents. I liked this week, it was interesting and I discovered the working world. I wouldn't like to have this job because I want to be a journalist."
Aniss

"I did my work experience in a food store. I went on work experience for a week, from Monday December 10th to December 15th. The man I worked with was nice. I helped him tidy up and put away the goods.  Finally, I don't like this job but it was an interesting experience and it was a good week."

A visit to an art exhibition in Paris

Hello and Happy New Year to you all ! We enjoyed reading your posts and your new year's resolutions. We are back after our work experience week and the Christmas holidays. Today we write about our school outing to the Edward Hopper exhibition and we will post on our work experience next. You can read the presentations and stories we wrote on our favourite paintings by Hopper by clicking on the links to our school's website :

We left our school with Mrs Serdar our English teacher, with our Art teacher and with our school librarian at 9:30 a.m, and we went by subway to the Grand-Palais to see the Hopper exhibition.
There, we met a guide who escorted us for 2 hours, and explained in details all about Edward Hopper’s works.
We were very lucky because this exhibition has a tremendous success in Paris and there were a lot of people queueing at the entrance.
I was impressed by the work of Hopper and the way he painted the American middle classes, their melancholy and loneliness in modern cities.   Jeanne, 3e1

On the 21st of December in 2012, my class went to the " Grand Palais ", a museum, to see an exhibition on the very famous paintings of Edward Hopper. When we arrived the woman who presented the exhibition explained us a lot of things about Hopper, his teachers and his paintings. We saw several paintings.  Victoria, 3e1

With our class 3ème1 we went to the museum to visit The Edward Hopper exhibition. He was a famous American painter that we studied in the English class. During this morning, we saw a lot of his paintings and of course the most famous "Nighthawks". I liked this visit.
